- The EFL student and the EFL teacher: What are the differences of an English classroom overseas? What do students expect? How should a teacher conduct his/herself? Who are the learners and why are they learning?
- Lesson Planning: Presentation, Practice and Production.
- Teaching Skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Teaching grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation / intonation
- Grammar Tutorial: How to learn grammar and how to teach grammar inductively and deductively
- Teaching Vocabulary: Different methods on how to teach basic beginners all the way to advanced learners
- Knowing Your Learners: Differences between teaching children, adolescents and adults. What can the teacher expect from beginner, intermediate and advanced learners and what can they do?
- Classroom Management: Ways of keeping the class focused and on task for all ages. How to set up your classroom rules, how to discipline each age group.
- Error Correction: Learn when and how to error correct. Fluency vs. Accuracy, Writing, etc.
- Music, Video and Games: How they can enhance your classroom. Why they work and how to use them properly to teach language.
- Observations: (video) 2 hours of video from a real ESL classroom.
- Peer Teaching: Present a lesson to your peers on either a beginner vocabulary lesson in a foreign language or a grammar lesson for intermediate to advanced students. Feedback is given from both peers and the teacher.
- Assignments: 5 reflection journals, 2 video analysis , 1 lesson plan, 1 teaching presentation, final exam.
